Santo Antonio “Sam” Osso, 88, of Washington, passed away, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

He was born December 19, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late Alfred and Elvera Derrico Osso.

On December 27, 1958, he married Patricia Agnew, who died June 7, 2015.

Mr. Osso attended Washington High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War in Japan.

Upon his return to the states, he worked at Tri State Engineering, McGraw Edison and during these years he also worked at Osso’s Pizza Shop. After his father retired from the business, Sam operated the family business until his own retirement, after which he stayed on as a consultant for the business (3rd generation).

Sam was a member of the American Legion, Sons and Daughters of Italy, and the Alpine Club

Sam was an avid sports enthusiast. He supported his alma mater, Wash High, every Friday night for 70 years. He also attended the Pitt football and basketball games with his good buddy, Ray Cappelli. They were season ticket holders.

Sam also enjoyed golf. He played in many golf outings with his good friend, Phil Romano.

Sam took pride in being a generous donor to local sports programs and also being a Secret Santa. So if your layaway from Walmart or Toys R Us was ever anonymously paid off before Christmas, there’s a good chance it was him. He loved giving back to the community.

Surviving are his children, Mindy (Rich) Earliwine of Washington and Lisa (Dave) Hasson of Washington; sisters Virginia (John) Ullom, Mary Ann (the late Harry) Fox and Margaret (John) Skariot; grandchildren Mandy (Patrick) Smoke, James (Jasmine) Hughes, Robert (Laura) Hasson and Kristen (Alex) Maldonado; great-grandchildren Rosemary (Rosie) and Madeline (Jojo) Gilley, Sammy Smoke, Jackson Hughes, Luke and Annabella Hasson, and Ava and Gianna Maldonado.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law Christy Agnew and Sonna Agnew; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are his son, Sammy Osso; and brother-in-law Denny Agnew.

We would also like to thank a very special friend, Crystal Miller, for making Santo laugh and enjoy his life again.

Thank you to his caregivers, Carla and Nikki, you were a true blessing.

Thanks also to Rae, Donna and Jenn. We feel like you are family.

Thank you to all the hospice care nurses.

So, in Dad’s words, I’m off like a screaming herd of turtles. One of Santo’s greatest hits (Bob Po).

A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any local high school sports team.

Arrangements have been entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
