Charles W. Horne

Charles W. “Billy” Horne, 77, of Scenery Hill, died Monday, January 25, 2021, in the Washington Healthsystem. He was born August 9, 1943, in Washington, a son of the late Kathryn McElfresh and Byron Horne.
He had very little formal schooling, however, he knew his numbers and could write his name. He delivered newspapers for the Observer-Reporter for 33 years until his retirement in April 1999.
He was a member of Scenery Hill United Methodist Church for 59 years. His church pins were his pride and joy. He was a 5-year member of Scenery Hill Lions Club, where he served as a director and broom chair.
Billy was a member of Chestnut Ridge Grange. He collected pop cans to recycle and saved tabs to donate to Bentleyville Campmeeting, which he attended faithfully for many years. He also cracked and sold walnuts and cut out coupons for soldiers. He won many ribbons at the fair for his flowers.
He is survived by two sisters, Karen Wright and Laverne Cowger, both of Okeechobee, Fla.; cousins Grace Mitchell and Ralph Horne, both of Washington; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as his faithful caretakers, Jack and Vivian Bauer, and Megin Harrington, all of Scenery Hill.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of memorial service Thursday, January 28, with the Rev. Paul Peternel officiating, in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301.
