Douglas Gene Howell, 59, of Avella, passed peacefully into eternal life Sunday, January 24, 2021, in Washington Hospital, Washington, surrounded by family whom he deeply loved. Born May 25, 1961, in Weirton, W.Va., he was a son of the late Teddy Gene Howell and the late Patsy Gene Straight Howell. Doug graduated from Weir High School in 1979. His independent spirit led him to start, own and operate several successful businesses. He was a loving husband, son, dad, pappy, brother, father-in-law, uncle and great-uncle. One of his greatest joys was in planning and hosting the annual family reunion, keeping the family connected as it grew through the years.

His loss will be felt by those left to carry on: The love of his life, Roxanne Boni Howell; sons, Chris (Sarah) Rose, Michael Rose and Douglas Gene (Brittany) Howell II; sister, Becky (Rob) Harris of New Cumberland, W.Va.; grandsons, Mason Rose and Hudson Rose; and stepmother, JoAnn Settle Howell; as well as his uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rocco and Margaret Boni; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Anna Belle Howell; maternal grandparents, James and Thelma Straight; stepbrother Stephen Michael Melko III; and stepsister Christine Melko Weiler.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial celebration of Doug’s life is being planned for a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Weirton, W.Va. www.steelandwolfe.com
