Josephine Prencipe Liberatore

Josephine “Jo” “Pena” Prencipe, 95, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
Josephine was happily married for 69 years to James V. Liberatore, a World War II veteran who preceded her in death in 2015, and was the loving mother of Karen Liberatore Israel (Bob) and James Liberatore (deceased, 2008). She was a beloved sister to Philomena (Bob) Chuey, Mary (Steve) Berti (deceased), and Leonard (deceased); and sister-in-law to Stella and Jay Power, Antoinette Lucas, Toni Liberatore and Perry Liberatore. She was an adoring “Gram” to grandchildren Jessica (Craig) Sachson, James (Melanie) Paulick, Johanna (Douglas) Kent, and Bria Liberatore (Jon) Kessel. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Madelyn and Mason Sachson, Sophia, Mary and Jacob Paulick, Mackenzie and Riley Kent, and Adalynn Kessel.
Josephine loved life. She had a warm, welcoming spirit with a big heart. She loved cooking big Italian meals, hosting her family, and she loved to say “eat, eat, mangia!” while family and friends gathered around the table. Those meals, and the love that filled their dining room, provided the foundation for a lifetime of memories for generations of her family. Her homemade cookies were always a favorite for weddings and holidays to family get-togethers and the beloved “Camp Canonsburg” for her grandchildren.
“Gram” showed absolute love to both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom cherished every moment in the warmth of their quaint Canonsburg home. A socially just woman, far ahead of her time, she would always remind us that “everybody is different” and people shouldn’t be judged. An inspiration to all she came in contact with, she lived each day to its fullest and appreciated all that she had: her family, her house, her health, her travels, her cards (she loved solitaire), her books and magazines, her TV shows, the caring Meals on Wheels volunteers, and her kind neighbors!
She will be missed but her family is comforted in knowing that she lived a long, happy and healthy life, one which she constantly called “blessed and full.” We love you, Josephine.
