Shirley Jean Roman
Shirley Jean Roman, 87, of Finleyville, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Hills. She was born December 5, 1933, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late James and Grace Murphy Horner.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Canonsburg High School (Canon-McMillan). She lived most of her life in Canonsburg, working at the Tiny Store and as a nurse’s aide at Western Center. She was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish.
A devoted wife and mother, Shirley made her home warm and welcoming for kids, neighbors and friends. She loved family gatherings and made every birthday, graduation and special occasion a memorable event. The holidays were especially joyful because of her passion for decorating, cooking and baking.
On September 17, 1953, she married Edward Roman, whom she was happily married to for 49 years, enjoying a lot of fishing and camping in their retirement, before his passing July 19, 2002.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her daughter Cindy (Brian) Bailey of Conway, New Hampshire; three sons, Paul Roman of Canonsburg, Dennis Roman of Vernon, Connecticut and Kevin Roman of Finleyville; grandchildren Sara (Tobey) Sweet, Laura (Michael) Ward-Horner, Birdie and Lindsey Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Britton and Autumn.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are three brothers, James Horner, Walter “Pickles” Horner and David Horner.
Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 4, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5.
