Josephine Zavatchen

Josephine Zavatchen, 94, of Richeyville, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, in Premier Washington Health Center, Washington, after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 17, 1927, in California, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Petrek Gallik.

Josephine was a 1937 graduate of California High School.

Mrs. Zavatchen was employed by Nemacolin Country Club where she operated the chalet, retiring in 1992.

Mrs. Zavatchen was a lifetime member of the Saint Katharine Drexel Parish, Richeyville Campus, where she was an active member of the Catholic Daughters and a member of the Ladies Guild.

Josephine enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting.

Surviving is her son and caretaker, Steven J. Zavatchen of Richeyville; two grandchildren, Edward S. Zavatchen (Haley) of Kennerdell and Richard J. Zavatchen (Cristina) of Philadelphia; one great-granddaughter, Zoey Elizabeth Zavatchen; daughter-in-law, Judith Zavatchen of Pittsburgh; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Gallik of Florida and Rose Gallik of Texas.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a son, Edward R. Zavatchen, who died August 30, 2010; four brothers, Leonard, John, Albert and William Gallik; one sister, Elizabeth Gallik.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, in the John B, Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where prayers will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the Richeyville Campus of the St. Katharine Drexel Parish, with Rev. Edward Yuhas officiating.
