There once was a man whose cologne was the smell of sawdust, he had a hearty belly laugh, and an incurable need to fix things. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, a friend, a mentor, and a shop teacher.

His name was Eugene “Gene” Robert Lukan and he passed away Monday, June 7, 2021, peacefully in his sleep, at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife, two children, four grandchildren, three brothers, and their families. He also leaves behind handcrafted furniture that will likely outlast everyone reading this and the computer it is written on.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 19 and then attended college at California University of Pennsylvania. He then went on to teach for 40 years. His tenure as an Industrial Arts teacher at Fort Chery High School was long enough that he taught the children of past students, and even some of their grandchildren.

He loved his family, football, coaching and woodworking. His hobbies were working out, eating, telling jokes, making people laugh and enjoying life. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In his memory, please learn a joke and tell it to your friends and loved ones, he would have wanted it that way.

Arrangements entrusted to the Mark R. Vrabel Funeral Home, North Canton, OH 330-452-4041.
