Edward Oakey Smith

Edward “Eddy” Oakey Smith, 76, of Mt. Morris, died unexpectedly at 8:09 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2021, in his home.

He was born Saturday, April 28, 1945, in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of the late James Lee Smith and Betty Jean DeWitt Smith.

Mr. Smith was a veteran having served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, farming, cleaning and organizing. He was a member of the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992 in Mt. Morris and the Mt. Morris Sportsman Club. He was retired from the Consol Coal Mine having worked at the Bower Portal.

His wife, Betty Lu Craig Smith, whom he married March 28, 1990, died April 20, 2016.

Surviving are his girlfriend, Lavenia Goodwin; two daughters, Angel Rollyson of Westerville, Ohio, and Susan Hollabaugh of Mt. Morris; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Flowers of Morgantown and Patty Anderson of Tennessee; two brothers, William James Smith of Morgantown and Daniel Smith of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are one daughter, Kim Dawson; one grandson, J. D. Dawson; one son-in-law, Doug Rollyson; one sister, Sharon Tennant.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. hour of service Wednesday, June 23, in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner / director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mount Morris, PA 15349, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Private burial will be in West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, W.Va., with military honors accorded by the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992.
