John Yates
John Yates, 70, of Eighty Four, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021, peacefully in his home.
He was born April 8, 1951, in Washington, a son of the late Paul and Mary Ferrell Yates.
Mr. Yates was a 1970 graduate of Bentworth High School.
John was a self-employed farmer and truck driver for over 50 years.
He was a member of the Sunset F&AM Lodge #237, NRA, Farmers Union, National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association and many other social clubs.
John was a very hard working man who enjoyed working on his farm, golfing, shooting pool, hunting and riding his motorcycle. He would lend a helping hand to whoever needed it, volunteered for years coaching baseball in Eighty Four and helped to build and upkeep the 84 ball fields. He was also a huge supporter of the Washington County Fair, volunteering his time to check in animals and would never miss a good tractor pull.
Surviving are a son, John “JJ” Yates Jr. (Meghan); a sister Donna Yates-Jones (Bob), both of Eighty Four; a brother, Paul David Yates Jr. of Washington; three nephews, Rodney and Dean Yates and Heath (Sabrina) Taggart.
Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister Ruth A. Yates-Taggart.
Friends will be received 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Greenlee’s Bentleyville Funeral Home, 619 Main St. Bentleyville, PA 15314, where funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Dykstra officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens. Masonic Services will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the National Pike Steam, Gas & Horse Association, 222 Spring Rd. Brownsville, PA 15417 or Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church, 45 Church Rd. Eighty Four, PA 15330.
