Donald L. Mike

Donald L. Mike, 81, of Bulger, passed away in his home, Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Donald was born September 6, 1939, in Smith Township, a son of the late Joseph and Sophia Abood Mike.

Mr. Mike was a busy man. He was constantly on the move and in his younger days could be found at the Meadows Racetrack, racing harness horses. Donald loved his horse racing and he shared it with his family. In his time racing he was an owner, trainer and driver. His most beloved horse was “The Town Terror”, whom he bred and raised from birth, after racing his mother for some time. Together they won numerous races and made amazing memories with Donald’s family.

Donald could be referred to as “Mr. Fix It” since he had a solution for any problem. He loved to tinker and find a way to repair anything around the house. This was a second nature for him, as Donald had worked as a carpenter, construction worker and a steelworker, for some time. As his grandkids would say, “Pap can fix anything”.

Donald always enjoyed being outdoors, there was not a time where he wanted to be inside. Whether he was fishing, hunting or traveling, he needed to be outside. His wife, Carol, and he loved to travel. Donald found the perfect partner for his busy life and they led such an adventurous life together, all the way till the end.

Surviving is his loving wife, Carol Gerhart Mike; children, Donald (Janelle) Mike Jr., Diane McGrew, Joe (Mary Ellen) Mike and Cynthia Huggins; stepchildren, Donna (Scott) Ruta and Dina (Sal) Digati; grandchildren, Brian Ferguson, Jordan (Liz) Pager, Luke and Sam Huggins; step-grandchildren, Erika Forsberg, Derek and Dylan Digati and Oliva Thompson; great-granddaughter, Charlee Pager; sisters, Edna Mike, Helen Catrain, Dolores (Merle) Amic and Donna Bish.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Hanna, Freda Koleno, Anna Phillips and Gloria Mike.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, in Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, 724-926-2800. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, in the funeral home. Following the service, burial will take place in St. George Cemetery, Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Meadows Chaplaincy program c/o CHHA the Meadows, 210 Racetrack Road, Washington, PA 15301.
