Rose Marie Palumbo

Rose Marie Palumbo, 97, of Burgettstown, passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 26, 2021, in Hope Cottage, Weirton, W.Va., where she has resided the past six years.

She was born February 22, 1924, a daughter of the late August and Rose Longo Rinella.

A graduate of the Union High School in Burgettstown, she was a devoted homemaker and her family meant everything to her.

Mrs. Palumbo was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, where she was a member of its Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters.

Her husband, Dominic Palumbo, who she married January 24, 1953, passed away June 1, 2009.

She was the loving mother of Rosemary Foster and husband Ernie of Weirton, W.Va.; and mother-in-law of Francine Lipnicky Palumbo of Washington; cherished grandmother of Natalie Shutey and husband John of Center Township, Stephanie Kiefer and husband Stephen of Sewickley, Michele McKenzie and husband Conor of Ligonier, Marla Liptak and husband Joe of North Huntingdon, and Angela Marasco and husband Chris of Pittsburgh; and 10 great-grandchildren, John and Dominic Shutey, Alex and Nicholas Kiefer, Charles, Henry, and Baby McKenzie due in May, Brooklyn and Hailey Liptak; and Makayla and Hannah Marasco. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Lazzara and husband Joseph of Burgettstown; and her loved and very close nieces and nephews, Thomas Lazzara and wife Georgean, Roseanne Scruppi, August Lazzara, and Felicia Bertrand and husband Harry.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are her son, Michael Palumbo, who passed away June 18, 1997; and her sister, Anne Rinella.

Her family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by the Rev. Zachary Galiyas, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1109 Main Street, Burgettstown. Interment will follow Mass in the Church Cemetery.

Everyone attending the funeral Mass are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing for the safety of the family, clergy and themselves.

Due to the exceptional care Rose received, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Serra Foundation, 2525 Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
