Russell L. Gorby

Russell L. Gorby, 80, of Washington, passed through heaven’s gates Friday, February 26, 2021, in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born August 25, 1940, in Washington, a son of the late Raymond Gorby Sr. and Ruth Seibert Gorby.

He worked a number of jobs, sometimes several at a time, before working as a cook at the Washington Hospital, from where he retired.

Mr. Gorby was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also volunteered at the Washington Christian Outreach for many years.

He served in both the Pennsylvania National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve, serving a total of 21 years.

On May 18, 1963, in Accident, Md., he married Rose Ann Hallam, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Robin Gorby and Regina Osko, both of Washington; a brother, Earl Gorby of Washington; five grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Gorby, Victoria and Stephanie Franko, and Garrett and Tristen Osko; four great-grandchildren, Ni’Kierra, Kyrie, Mackinnon, Isobel, and one more on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are five sisters, Virginia Sakerka, Eva Scarberrry, Iva Sabatasse, Dolores Clutter and Judy Bird; three brothers, Raymond Gorby Jr., Ronald Gorby and Wayne Gorby; and a son-in-law, Jon Michael Osko.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 3. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. In accordance with state regulations, face coverings are required for anyone in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
