Stephen W. Perchinsky Sr.
Stephen W. Perchinsky Sr., 91, of Bentleyville, formerly of Eighty Four and Long Island, N.Y., passed away Friday afternoon, February 26, 2021, in his home.
He was born December 26, 1929, in Ellsworth, a son of Albert and Margaret Sworcheck Perchinsky.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School and the Jamaica L.I. Meat Cutter School.
Mr. Perchinsky served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Washborn.
He was employed for 14 years in Long Island as a construction foreman and shop steward of Local 66; for 22 ½ years at Beth Energy Mines; and for 10 years as a meat cutter at Krogers and Bartolotta’s. He also served on the water authority for Bentleyville.
Mr. Perchinsky was a member of the former St. Clement and St. Luke parishes, which is now St. Katharine Drexel Parish.
He was a member of the St. Katharine Drexel choir for many years, Knights of Columbus, and he started the Rosary Makers Organization, which sent more than 45,000 rosaries to missionaries worldwide. He and his wife, Mildred, actively worked the parish and Knights of Columbus fish fries.
He was also a member of the Lithuanian Club and Moose Club.
Mr. Perchinsky was an avid magician; he was an outstanding pool shooter and played and won many tournaments in New York and Pennsylvania. He was a man of many talents and raised pure-bred German Shepherd dogs in Long Island. While in New York, he worked in construction and built his first home at the age of 25. He provided homes for Purple Martin birds for 29 years, he loved to garden, and he canned many jars of pickles, which he gave away to friends and family. He loved to fish and spent time in Canada, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania catching fish. He loved the Rosary and became captain for the Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Crusade said in the St. Katharine Drexel courtyard. He was also an avid golfer and played in the Erie Charity Golf Classic.
His wife, Mildred “Millie” Poye Perchinsky survives. They were married May 25, 1952, in St. Hilary Parish, Washington.
Surviving are his children, Stephen (Terrie Lynn, deceased), Ronald Sr. (Cheryl), Cynthia Sarbak (Matthew), Judith Lowman (Alan) and Linda Stumpf; grandchildren Shannon Robertson (Brett), Lauren Knopp (Tim), Jennifer Ursic (Bill), Jamie Ball (Brian), Michael Lloyd (Lindsay), Ronald Perchinsky Jr., Troy Perchinsky (Kristen), Cory Perchinsky, Colton Perchinsky (Karissa), Andrew Stumpf, Nicole Stumpf, and Katie Grace Stumpf; great-grandchildren Taylor Pelissero, Annie Pelissero, Ronald Perchinsky, Meadow Perchinsky, Kai Perchinsky, Gracie Stumpf, Aiden Lloyd, and Aubrey Lloyd; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Francis A. Perchinsky and Richard T. Perchinsky.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 1, in the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Katharine Drexel, Bentleyville Campus, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, with the Rev. Edward L. Yuhas, pastor, and the Rev. Donald Chortos as concelebrants.
Facial covering and social distancing are required in the funeral home and church. Due to the current limitations on gatherings, only 80 people are permitted in the church.
Interment will follow at St. Luke Cemetery for the Rite of Committal service and military honors by American Legion Post 165 of Bentleyville.
