Adam V. McKean

Adam V. McKean, 73, of Carmichaels, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. McKean was born May 5, 1947, in Hiller, to the late Mr. Vincent McKean and Mrs. Agnes Patsko McKean.

Mr. McKean is survived by two younger siblings, Mr. Thomas (Carol) McKean of Uniontown and Ms. Kathleen Bellan of Hiller.

Mr. McKean graduated from Redstone High School and attended Valley Forge Military Academy and Junior College, subsequently serving his country with honor in the United Stated Army during the Vietnam War.

Upon his return to civilian life, he met and married his adoring wife, Mary L. McKean of Carmichaels, who survives him. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Amber R. McKean Trickett and husband Dennis Trickett of Carmichaels, and daughter Anita M. McKean Sherwood and husband Allen Sherwood of Upper St Clair.

He is also survived by his admiring granddaughters, Carly Trickett Fisher and husband Brandon of Fairmont, W.Va., and Cassy Trickett of Fort Worth, Texas; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Mr. McKean worked at Nemacolin Mines until its closing in 1986. He then became employed with the Department of Correction, retiring in 2009.

Mr. McKean continued an active lifestyle while in retirement always putting God first, and being incredibly involved at Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Nemacolin (now part of St. Matthias Parish). He was a 4th degree Knight and served as an officer of the Knights of Columbus Assembly #975 Carmichaels.

After God, his most important task was the care of the woman of his dreams, his wife, Mary. Mr. McKean was an avid outdoorsman, plus enjoyed becoming a beekeeper, studying and caring for his apiary.

Until his death, Mr. McKean was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #6290, where he served as president.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, in the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320, (724)966-5100. A Funeral Mass will follow in St. Hugh Church, 408 Route 88, Carmichaels, PA 15320. Interment with full military rites will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Crucible, by the Greene County Honor Guard.

The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand watch from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
