John E. McKita

John E. “Jack” McKita, 69, of Daisytown, passed away peacefully in his home, Saturday, March 27, 2021, after a two-year heart-related illness. Born December 24, 1951, in North Charleroi, he was a son of the late Jack E. and Margaret Mihalek McKita.

A member of the Hungarian Club, Jack enjoyed gardening and was an avid music lover. He grew up in Monongahela and graduated from Mon Valley Catholic High School in 1970.

Following high school, Jack attended Career Academy in Ohio for broadcasting before working at WESA Radio in Charleroi. He served his country honorably, serving in the United States Army as a military policeman in Vietnam, where he received a Meritorious Service Award. He then attended Graham Junior College in Boston for broadcast journalism. He retired from ATI (Jessop) in Washington.

Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah Palmer McKita; their children, Adam (Jessica) McKita, Jesse (Amanda) McKita and Jillian (Steve) Onisko; grandchildren Adam McKita II, Della and Lola Onisko, McKenzi Cole and a granddaughter due in July; his mother, Margaret McKita; and brothers Dennis (late wife Bonnie) and Tom (Adele) McKita.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack E.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 226 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, PA 15022. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, in the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Creek Cemetery.
