James David Corey

James Corey, formerly of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly from the complications of COPD and pneumonia Monday, April 19, 2021, in Phoenix, Ariz.

James was born in Canonsburg, a son of the late Ruzzie Corey and Rose Megyesi Corey.

He graduated in 1975 from Canon-McMillan High School.

James worked his entire life in the special needs and mental health industry, first for Western Center Hospital and then for Mayview State Hospital.

He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church growing up. He enjoyed spending time with his family, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends while listening to his favorite music.

He is survived by two brothers, Samuel (Marsha) Corey of Washington and John (Doreen) Corey of Canonsburg; one sister, Julia (Duane) Behanna of Washington.

Deceased is a brother, Ruzzie Corey Jr.; a sister, Barbara Sarakowski; and infant brother Michael.

James is also survived by his partner of 41 years, Joe Ewing of Phoenix.

The family would like to thank Dan Burchik and Dan Bellas of Burbank, Calif., for their kindness, generosity and long-lasting friendship to James, Joe and the Corey family.

Due to Covid restrictions, a memorial service will be planned for a later date. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
