John E. Bodenheimer Sr.
John E. Bodenheimer Sr., 92, of Elyria Township, Elyria, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty L. Ruschel Bodenheimer; and his parents, John and Irene Bodenheimer.
John was born in Rochester, N.Y., lived his early years in Washington, and the majority of his life in Elyria.
John owned an auto body shop before he worked for Nationwide Insurance as a special claims adjuster for 25 years.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Elyria, where he was an usher and on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Boy Scouts for 50 years, became an Eagle Scout and received several other honors. John enjoyed photography, archery, woodworking, sailing, skiing, golf, bowling and family vacations.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah L. Smith (Frank Rivituso) of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, and Kathy L. Copley of Lorain, Ohio; and son John E. Bodenheimer Jr. of Elyria; his granddaughters, Julie Smith, Jamie Sansom (Nick) and Heather Copley; great-granddaughter Jessica Mace; great-grandsons Aedan Sansom and Dean Sansom.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley McKinny.
Family received friends from noon until the 1 p.m. hour of service Friday, April 30, in First United Methodist Church, 312 Third Street, Elyria, Ohio, with the Rev. Kent Joy, Pastor officiating. Interment at Brookdale Cemetery. MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
