Lloyd Joseph Susini
Lloyd Joseph Susini, 97, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully, May 6, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born October 11, 1923, in Glen, to the late Adelindo and Nina Corsi Susini.
He was a graduate of East Deer High School. In 1945 he earned a degree in metallurgical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, then known as Carnegie Institute of Technology. He also attended Penn State University, taking managerial courses.
Lloyd worked in the steel industry for 32 years at various steel companies in managerial positions. He also owned Milanos Restaurant in New Kensington along with his parents and Glade Beverage in Lower Burrell with his brother, Robert. Upon his retirement from Jessop Steel Company in 1989, he founded Susini Specialty Steel Company in Natrona Heights. He worked there alongside his son and daughter until the age of 89.
He loved traveling with his wife. They made several trips to Italy. He traveled the United States, Mexico, France, Germany, Austria and Sweden. He loved to fish, play bocce, play cards, but mostly he loved to be surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his children, Sandra Susini of Indian Wells, Calif., Thomas A. (Terry) Susini of North Hills, Marlene (David) Kavolak of Washington, Laurence M. (Rhonda) Susini, M.D. of Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Karen A. (Peter) Less of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, Juli, Christopher (Heather) and Jared (Cholla) Susini, Jaclyn (David) Bacon, Stephen (Samantha) Less, Michelle (Ben) Famoso, Zachary Kavolak and Logan Susini; and great-grandchildren, Maddox, Griffin, Saige, Stella, Mila, David, Caleb, Adeline and Aldo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Genevieve C. Susini; and brother, Robert G. Susini.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 10, in Ross G. Walker Funeral Home Ltd., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where prayers of transfer will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, followed by a Christian funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.
