William Andrew Cushman, 80, of Garner, N.C., passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, in his home.

He was born February 6, 1941, to the late Andrew and Helen Goldbaugh Cushman in Canonsburg.

He was a 1959 graduate of Canonsburg High School and served in the U.S. Army, honorably discharged in 1965. He was stationed in Germany, where he met his wife. They enjoyed 61 years together and recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Over the years, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Germany, the U.K. and other parts of Europe.

Shortly after returning to the U.S. with his bride from Germany, he gained employment at McGraw Edison in Canonsburg, where he worked for more than 40 years. He retired from Pennsylvania Transformer as a supervisor and shortly after relocated to North Carolina.

While in Pennsylvania, he was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Canonsburg and later Immaculate Conception in Washington.

He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ) Lodge 138 in Strabane. He was a volunteer with 84 Youth Little League Baseball. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of designing and building his own house.

He loved the Steelers, the Pirates and both Pitt and Penn State football.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children Dale (Janette) Cushman of Suwanee, Ga., Jannine (Dwayne) LeBlanc of Cary, N.C., and Nicole (Shane) Balcik of Stroudsburg; grandchildren Jacques, Eric, Abrielle, Ethan, Liam, Ellie, Andre and Dorielle; and many nieces and nephews. He was always happiest when he was with his family, who will dearly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James, Edward and Robert; and sisters Ann, Dorothy, Katherine and Helen. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh, N.C., at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of one’s choice.
