Edward J. Horvath Sr.
Edward J. Horvath Sr., 95, of Canonsburg, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, at South Hills Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.
He was born December 25, 1925, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Frank A. and Mary Durkacs Horvath.
Edward attended Canonsburg High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from March 31, 1944 to June 2, 1946. He married Carol Zinn November 4, 1950, who passed away December 6, 2000.
Ed worked at Pennsylvania Transformer, McGraw Edison Power Systems Division, as a winder and later a boss in the winding room.
Ed was a member of the Holy Rosary Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, the Canonsburg Sportsman Club and a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his son Joseph A. (Lorna) Horvath of Canonsburg; daughters, Mary Esther (David) Capo, Jean (Jim Hays) Rosmus, Susanne (Richard) Thompson and Christine (Mark) Stevens, all of Canonsburg; special niece, who he helped raise, Pamela (Evan) Zinn Lucas of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; brother, Francis (Donna) Horvath of Chicago; sister, Joan Wright of Houston; sister-in-law, Thresa Horvath of Strabane; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife, is his daughter, Bernice Christner, who passed away December 13, 2005; son, Edward J. Horvath Jr., who passed away August 24, 2007; brothers, John and Carl Horvath; sister, Anna Mary Horvath; sister-in-law, Jane Horvath; and sons-in-law, Keith Christner and Dennis Rosmus.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 21, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, May 22, followed by a 10 a.m. mass of Christian burial in the Holy Rosary Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish.
Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
