Jerry Wayne Caldwell
Jerry Wayne Caldwell, 72, of Valley Grove, W.Va., died Sunday, May 23, 2021, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1948, a son of the late Edison and Zelma Hughes Caldwell.
Jerry was a laborer at Wheeling Machine and Union Camp / International Paper and a self-employed painter. He retired from International Paper in 2005.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Army Airborne division from 1968-1970 and in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He was a member of the Hunt-Kennedy American Legion Post 639 of Claysville.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in his garage. He loved to watch football and was a wealth of sports statistics. He loved working outside and was always busy caring for his house and property; mowing grass, caring for his goats, cutting wood, building sheds and spoiling his dog, Nola.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Roger Caldwell; and son-in-law Brian Leech.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Lilley Caldwell; children Kelly Stiles, Judd (Audra Redick) Caldwell, Shelly (Greg) Wood and Rendee (Justin Gagich) Leech; two grandchildren, Karae Wigal and Ryer Hull; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Connie Lilley; and several lifelong friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 28, in Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-242-2311), where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, with the Rev. Dennis Arnold officiating.
Interment to follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Dallas, W.Va., where full military honors will be conducted.
