Geraldine B. Kearns
Geraldine B. “Twiggy” Kearns, 97, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born April 13, 1924, in Washington County, a daughter of the late Willis Earl and Gay Nelle Hartley Dillie. She was a coal miner’s daughter with nine talented siblings, Zelda, Silvia, Deloris, Willis Jr., Darlene, Keith, Evagean, Shirley and Curtis. The musically gifted Dillie family hosted neighborhood square dances in their home; always great country music for family and friends gathering.
In 1948, Geraldine married Bill Kearns. They resided on Avella Farm and celebrated 59 years of marriage. Geraldine did not have a driver’s license and stayed home a lot. When she moved off the farm to reside in Washington, her social life flourished, with lots of new friends in church and senior activities. Everyone enjoyed Twiggy and she appreciated their friendship. Geraldine cherished the years she lived with her graddaughter’s family, Nicolette, Brett, Mattalyn, Aspyn, Penelope and Cole Shriver.
Geraldine is survived by daughter Gloria (Frank) Lesnock; son Kenneth (Rebecca); grandchildren James (Denice) Durila, Lisa Durila (Bob), Robert Tate, Kevin Hines, Todd (Barb) Kearns, Shawn (Jessica) Kearns, Nicolette (Brett) Shriver, Ben (Jennifer) Kearns, Nathan Kearns and Justin Kearns; many great-grandchildren; and brother Curtis (Stush) Dillie.
Preceeding her in death were husbands Wilbert Hines and William Kearns Sr.; son Bill Kearns Jr.; and daughter Janet Hines Tate.
