Hazel Irene Mitchell Bennington
Hazel Irene Mitchell Bennington, 96, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021, in Transitions Health Care.
She was born May 14, 1925, in Greene County, a daughter of John Mitchell and Mary Effie Critchfield Mitchell.
Mrs. Bennington graduated from Trinity High School. She retired from The Washington Hospital, where she had worked in the business office.
Mrs. Bennington was a member of Avery United Methodist Church and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Margaret E. Caven Shrine #42, and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martha V. Paul Chapter #404, where she served as past matron.
On October 16, 1946, she married Glenn D. Bennington Jr., who died July 29, 2013.
Surviving are a son, William Edward Bennington of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; daughter Mary Irene Thorn (Patrick J.) of Kingwood, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Frances Dulany and Martha Lightner; and two brothers, Bill Mitchell and Joseph Mitchell.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, June 2, in Avery United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Erik Hoeke officiating. An Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avery United Methodist Church, 1100 Gabby Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
