Johanna E. Boback passed Saturday, November 6, 2021.
“It’s time for me to say goodbye. I lost my battle. Anyone that knows me, knows it was hard fought. No life is perfect, but still can be fulfilling. Mine had many cherished memories.”
Johanna was born November 13, 1947, in her parent’s (Frank and Dorothy Boback) living room in Vestaburg, the only girl of five children, including brothers Frank of Fall River, Mass., the late Raymond (Jeanne) of Indianapolis, Ind., Bruce of Ladson, S.C., and Matthew of Vestaburg.
She is also survived by her three children, Tommy (Missy) of Tidioute, Johanna of Vestaburg, Frank of Fredericktown, and foster daughter Missy (Derrick) of Charleroi; and three grandchildren.
Johanna was a foster parent to many children, and especially enjoyed fostering teenage girls, for many years. Up until her death, she was visited by some, who still call her mom.
Before graduating from Beth-Center High School in 1965, Johanna was a Brownie, Girl Scout, Senior Girl Scout, and achieved Ambassador rank equivalent to Eagle Scout.
One of the joys in her life was animals, especially cats. Through her life, she fostered 103, each with their own personality. Her Goldie has lived 28 years. She volunteered at Greene County Humane Society for over 10 years. The love of her life was her dog, Gretchen, the most loyal companion she’d ever had. There’s not enough tears to express how much she missed her.
Some of her other joys were counted cross-stitch, with some of her pieces having over 64,000 stitches. Johanna’s time was also spent doing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, working with wood building cat houses, and sewing. She loved working with her hands.
For over 20 years Johanna bartended at several area bars. One of the most memorable was American Legion Post 391 in Fredericktown; her guys there were the best and she missed the fun and laughs she had with them.
Who can say they have a friend for over 70 years? Johanna had four! Where one was, so were the others. To this day we laugh and cry together. “I love you Cindy, Lois, Gail and Ceil. I will miss you. Now we are four.”
“And now I must leave you to be with my Father. It is my time and my work here is done. In my prayers I ask my Father if I could watch over his animals and to see my pets again. I miss my Gretchen, Dimples, Jill, Velvet, Tish and Amanda, just to name a few.”
“So I leave this world and friends. Be kind, love each other, and God loves you. Until we meet again. Bye, God loves you.”
There will be no viewing. A memorial will be held at Johanna’s house at a later date.
