Gerald R. “Jerry” Helmick, 87, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. He was born November 1, 1934, in Thomas, West Virginia, a son of the late Roy W. Helmick and Rose Verdinek Helmick Moncilovich.

Jerry was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, attending Canonsburg High School. Jerry joined the United States Air Force in 1952. He served in the 21st/6461st Troop Carrier Squadron – The Kyushu Gypsies – during the Korean War.

After his discharge from the military, Jerry attended Waynesburg College, graduating in 1962. He worked for State Farm Insurance for 29 years. Jerry was an avid golfer, outdoorsman, and enjoyed painting, but most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family.

Jerry was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish, and a life member of the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 in Houston. He was also a past President of the Pennsylvania Claims Association.

On November 10, 1956 he married Rosemarie Kumer who passed away July 15, 2012.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Gerald D. “Jerry” (Rebecca) Helmick of Canonsburg; daughters, Suanne (Jon) Kelly of Houston, and Teresa (Michael) Engler of Washington; grandchildren Colleen (Josh) St. Cyr, Stephanie (Christopher) Gee, Alexander Engler and Samuel Helmick; great-grandchildren Noah, Cooper and Tanner Smith, Sarah St. Cyr and Hadley and Eliza Gee; and sister, Alma Meacham of Painesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents and wife; are brothers, Daniel and Alan Moncilovich.

Friends and family are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner / supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120; where departing prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2021, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Full military rites will be accorded immediately after church.

Private interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil.
