Rebecca S. Solomon Gladden
Rebecca “Becky” S. Solomon Gladden, 93, of McDonald, Cecil Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at her home.
Becky was born on January 31, 1928, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Kattas and Nijme Moussa Solomon. She grew up in Canonsburg, in particular, East End Canonsburg, and graduated from Canonsburg High School in the class of 1946.
She met her husband Edward who was a branch manager for PNC Bank’s Canonsburg branch. They were married in 1961 and moved to Cecil Township, (Gladden Heights) where she has resided ever since.
Both of her parents emigrated to the U.S. from Syria and she was extremely proud of her Syrian heritage and her Presbyterian faith. She passed her love for her heritage onto her children and grandchildren as well. She was frequently referred to as “Situ”, which is Grandmother in Syrian, and for as much as she loved her heritage, she loved her family even more. They were her life and made her whole. Becky had so much love to give and did so by helping everyone she could.
After her husband passed away in 1980, she went back to work as a teller at PNC Bank for almost 20 years. After retiring from PNC Bank, she did an amazing job of balancing the multiple activities of her grandchildren while also volunteering with many service organizations.
She was a lifelong member of McDonald Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder and a Deacon. Becky was involved in many church functions including Bible studies, the Women’s Association, as a Sunday School teacher, Meals on Wheels and most recently being involved with the church’s youth group.
She was also a frequent volunteer at the McDonald Trail Station and previously at the information desk at Canonsburg Hospital. People loved her and she loved them just as much. At 93 years old, Becky proved that age is truly just a number.
Surviving are her children, James Richard (Stephanie) Gladden of Cecil Township., Rebecca Louise (Sherman) Brizzi of Bethel Park; grandchildren, Courtney, Christopher and Luke Gladden, Sherman Brizzi, Vanessa Hickton, Jacqueline Murray; great-grandchildren, Bodie Hickton, Farrah Murray, Mollie Steingroewer, and Edward Hickton.
Along with her parents, Rebecca is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Fay Gladden; along with her brothers, Fred, Michael, and Edward Solomon.

A Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 22, at McDonald Presbyterian Church, 119 Station Street, McDonald. Interment will follow at Robinson Run Cemetery.
