David Inman
David “Bud” Inman, 98, of Upper St. Clair, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, in Friendship Village, where he had resided since 1999. He was born June 25, 1923, in Monroeville, N.J., a son of John W. Inman and Pauline Hilbmann Inman.
In addition to his parents and all seven of his siblings, John Jr., Paul, Jim, Esther, Tom, Grace and Mabel, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Della Bates Inman. Mr.
Inman is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mr. Inman was raised on farms in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and at one time attended a one-room schoolhouse. He continued to enjoy gardening in his later years.
He graduated from Bridgeton High School in New Jersey and Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.
Mr. Inman was a proud veteran of World War II, in which he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot of the P51 Fighter plane. He continued to be active in several veterans groups, serving for several terms as president of the Western Pennsylvania Eighth Air Force Historical Society.
He was most recently employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass as a physicist in chemical research and chemical sales until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Inman was known for his winning smile and sense of humor. He had a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling, especially when he was driving. Visiting friends and family were often treated to a guided tour of the Pittsburgh area. He was for many years the family patriarch and wrote “The William Inman Story” in 1995, in which he researched and chronicled the experiences of his grandfather during the Civil War.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 3, in the chapel at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241.
