Patricia Lynn Jordan Novak
Patricia Lynn Jordan Novak, 81, of Hickory, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Presbyterian SeniorCare with her family by her side.
She was born on February 29, 1940 in Osage, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William Jordan and Stella Smalsky.
She was a 1958 graduate of Cumberland Township High School. After high school, she went to work as a seamstress at the Berkowitz Factory in Waynesburg. She then used her skill of sewing throughout her life, making many of her children’s’ clothes.
She left the factory when she married the love her of life, Richard Novak, on February 8, 1964. They celebrated 55 years of marriage together.
Together they raised five children. When the children were all of school age, she returned to work as a waitress at the Meadows Racetrack, where she worked for over thirty years. She became friends with so many wonderful people throughout her years there. Patty was always kind and sweet to everyone she met.
Patty loved to crochet, work in her garden and listen to music, especially Neil Diamond and Polka Music. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and twelve grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church (St. Isidore the Farmer Parish) in Avella.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn (David) Whoolery of Leesburg, Va.; Susan (Scott) Faieta of Brownsville; Richard (Jennifer) Novak of Leesburg, Va; Cynthia (Ken) Spencer of Haymarket, Va; and Denise (Kevin) Kimberling of Venetia; twelve grandchildren, Brittany Cole, Jessica Spencer, Kayla (Shanda) Whoolery, Dominic (Jenna) Faieta, Gino (Rachel) Faieta, Alexa Novak, Colin Kimberling, Ty Spencer, Samantha Novak, Jordan Spencer, Gavin Kimberling, and Sidney Spencer; one brother, Stanley (Helen) Jordan, two sisters, Carole (Anthony) Olivero and Donna Rothman; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her Shih tzu, Archie, who brought her so much joy in the past few years.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Richard Novak, who passed away on November 7, 2020; her father, William Jordan; mother, Stella Smalsky; and her step father, Michael Smalsky.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 4, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, with the Rev. Harry Bielewicz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
