Larry Vaughn Cox
Rev. Larry Vaughn Cox, 81, of Elizabethtown, was ushered into the arms of Jesus Saturday, August 28, 2021, after a lengthy illness. Born January 8, 1940, in Uniontown, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Nell M. Cox, and raised in Taylortown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Carol W. Cox; three children, Renee Rencher of Pennsylvania, Stephanie Cox of Colorado, Larry Cox, Jr. of Illinois; and one granddaughter, Samantha Beckman of Pennsylvania.
He was a graduate of Linsley Military Institute, the Bob Jones University (Bible), and Tennessee Temple University (Psychology).
Larry worked in numerous positions including as a state probation officer in Tennessee and North Carolina, and public school teacher until he felt called into Christian ministry, which led to his becoming a principal, teacher, music director, associate pastor, visitation pastor and trumpet teacher in churches in both N.C. and PA.
A trumpeter par excellence, Larry played in orchestras and trumpet trios, and was a featured soloist in churches, revivals, weddings and funerals. He also had a special love for music, antique cars, German Shepherds, riding his scooter, and joke telling. He loved being with his family, but most importantly, he loved telling others about Jesus.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. hour of service Friday, September 3, in the First Baptist Church of Dunkard in Taylortown (Dilliner), with Pastor Andy Hawes officiating. Interment follows in the Fairview Cemetery, Taylortown.
Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Elizabethtown at Temple Bible Church at a future date to be announced.
