William Joseph Stenger Jr., 78, of Valley Grove, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late William J. and Wilma Yanak Stenger Sr.
William was a veteran and 32-year member of the Army Reserves. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the Department of Defense until his retirement.
He was an accomplished accordion player since the age of 7. He enjoyed the outdoors including camping, boating and fishing. Above all, he loved all of the family get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Davis Stenger; son, William John Stenger (Jessica) of Wheeling; two granddaughters, Isabella and Madalynn Stenger; and his dog, “Pookie”.
Friends and family will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 10, in Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling (304-242-2311), where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 11. Interment will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
