Former Washington School District board member Thomas Ronald Scholato, who died Friday, September 17, 2021, was remembered as a fierce champion for education reform and a passionate public servant. The impact of his work will live on for generations to come.
Tom Scholato is survived by his wife, Bernadette Scholato; children, Tommy, Renee, Erin, Denine, and Ryan; along with 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Many colleagues and friends adored being part of Tom Scholato’s life and will hold him in their hearts forever.
Tom, who worked as the director of business sales for Cellular One, retired in 2011. He was on the Washington School District Board from 2007-2017. He was a 1991 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Marywood University in Scranton, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business while raising his family and working a full-time job.
As a father and grandfather, Tom coached baseball, football and basketball. He was actively involved in coaching his children and grandchildren in volleyball, track, cross-country, football, swimming, baseball, and even cheerleading.
Tom was born in Pottsville and grew up in Minersville.
Tom enjoyed sports, reading, learning, debating, the Eagles, Penn State Football, traveling to watch his grandchildren play football at Autin Peay, and volleyball at Kennesaw State University and Wingate University. He was an avid sports fan and took great pleasure in spoiling his Yorkie Poo, Little Bit.
A memorial/reception to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, in Venue 54, 54 West Wheeling Street, Washington.
Memorials may be made, in memory of Tom, to the Wash High National Honor Society, 311 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301-4272.
