John Joseph Casey

John J. Casey of Robinson Township, formerly of Burgettstown, passed Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Mr. Casey was born October 7, 1947 in Pittsburgh and raised in Beechview, as James Randall Kelly by his adoptive parents James and Alma Kelly who also precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Pescho Casey; daughters Kathleen Casey and Suzanne Casey, both of Robinson Township, and Erin Casey (Gary) Platt of Carnegie; grandchildren Rian John Platt, Lana Katherine Platt and Allison Amelia Platt; brother Earl Casey Kelly (Nancy) of Green Valley Ariz.; nieces Caroline (Surit) Sarin, Christine Kelly Moore, Maggi (Mike) Jones; great nephew Rishi Sean Sarin; and great niece Kayce Jean Moore.

John enlisted the United States Air Force at the age of 19 under his legal birth name. He worked as an Air Reserve Technician at the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon Township for 40 years, obtaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Desert Storm, and his military career took him all over the word. After his retirement in 2008, he co-founded the 911th Retirees Group. He was also a member of Slovan V.F.W. Post 6553.

John was a man of deep faith, service to Christ, and student of the Bible. He was an active member of McDonald Presbyterian Church, and a previous member of Burgettstown Presbyterian church.

He held several leadership positions within his congregations where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. He found meaningful fellowship with his independent bible study group.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Nation Funeral Home Inc. 220 E. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021.

Interment will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 4, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Washington City Mission, 84 W. Wheeling Street, Washington, or Light of Life Rescue Mission, 913 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh.
