Lorenzo Blackburn Harris

Lorenzo Blackburn “Bobo” Harris, 89, of Marianna, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021.

He was born on January 13, 1932 in Washington, to the late William Henry Allen and Myrtle Pearle Lawson Allen, and is one of 23 siblings. He was raised by his adoptive parents Blanch and Addie Gordon Harris of Marianna.

Lorenzo graduated from Jefferson Morgan Senior High and furthered his education in various trade schools. Lorenzo is an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He married Celestine Willis Harris, and together they raised eight children.

While residing in Harrisburg, Lorenzo, worked at Fruehauf Corporation and served as the President of Allied Industrial Workers of America, Union, Local 488 until 1974 when he moved his family back to Marianna, where he retired as a Foreman of the Marianna coal mines.

Lorenzo was a member of First Baptist Church, Clarksville, where he served as a Deacon. He loved fishing, hunting, coaching Little League baseball, and watching his sons play high school football. He was athletic and enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Celestine Harris; a daughter, Min. Cheryl Williams; three grandchildren, and 21 siblings.

He is survived by, five daughters, Celestine Person, San Tan Valley, Ariz., Rev. Donna (Rev. Barry) Chambers, Mechanicsburg, Elder Carla (Bishop Stanley) Smith, North Chesterfield, Va., Loren Harris, Washington, and Sandra Williams, Harrisburg; three sons, Lorenzo (Ella) Harris, North Pole, Alaska, Russell Harris, Fredericktown, and James (Debby) Williams, Clarksville, his only remaining sister, Elder Norma J. Allen, Harrisburg; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Jones, Washington, and Margaret Willis, Monongahela; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will be received from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 171 First Street, Clarksville, followed at 1 p.m. by a homegoing service, Rev. Barry D. Chambers, Officiant, and Rev. James C. Cherry Sr., Pastor, Eulogist.

The family is asking that everyone follow Covid-19 protocol, and wear your mask.
