Terry L. Divelbliss

Terry L. Divelbliss, 80, of McMurray, passed away after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Friday, July 29, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 20, 1942, to John L. and Kathryn Squires Divelbliss, he grew up on the family dairy farm in Scenery Hill.

Terry graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1960 as class president and in 1964 from California State College, the same year he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Yanish.

He taught at Washington High School before starting a career in information technology at Blue Cross in the late 1960s. He later joined IT management at PPG Industries, where he retired in 2002 after more than 20 years. He commuted early mornings from Eighty Four so he could spend evenings caring for his family and meticulously kept home, yard, and garden for nearly 50 years.

Known as a gentle man with a strong presence who never sat idle, he volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, delivered Meals on Wheels, and prepared tax returns for elderly neighbors. A lifelong Lutheran, he was a member of First Lutheran Church, Washington, and later Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, McMurray, where he was council president and sang in the choir. He traveled the globe with family and dear friends, took his family to Disney World every year, supported cultural organizations in Pittsburgh and Washington, and braved New York City traffic to visit his beloved grandchildren.

He will be dearly missed by family and friends but will live in our hearts forever. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by a son Terry Alan (Cyndi) of McMurray; a daughter, Elaine (Steven) Libenson of Ridgewood, N.J.; three grandchildren, Daniel, Lindsey, and Clarissa Libenson; his sister, Sally (Walter) Dovshek; and his brother, David (Rachel).

Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 1 in BEINHAUERS at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 2 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 105 Gateshead Drive, McMurray. A luncheon will be held at Valley Brook Golf Club at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Scenery Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Terry’s honor to Washington City Mission and Washington County Humane Society. Please add or view tributes at www.beinhauer.com.
