Armelda Brown
Armelda Brown of Eighty Four, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
She was born in Canonsburg, on April 27, 1930, and was one of three children born to Simon and Gilberta Saunders.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James Saunders; and sister, Geraldine Anderson.
Armelda was married to Sherman Clinton Brown on August 8, 1948, until his death, September 1995.
She attended Nazareth Baptist Church in her earlier years, where she was baptized.
Armelda worked at Home Furniture in Canonsburg before going to work at Canonsburg General Hospital.
“Brownie,” as she was known by all that met her on the job, retired from the hospital after 25 years of service. She also worked for a short time as a home care aid after her retirement.
She enjoyed going fishing and to yard sales, flea markets, bingo and crocheting.
Armelda was a loving mother of five children: Sherman Gerald (Sandy) Brown of Washington, Connie (Leonard) Kelley of Eighty Four, Beverly (Clarence) Richardson of South Fayette, James (Darlene) Brown of Washington and Kim Asbury of Washington.
She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Betty Brown Tyler; 25 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren; close friends, Diane Roman and Mrs. Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, James; and grandsons, Ronald Cox and Reggie Gibbs.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Friday, August 12, 2022, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home. 420 Locust Ave., Washington, PA 15301, with Pastor Melanie Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
