Wilbert L. Melvin, Jr.
Wilbert L. “Wil” Melvin, Jr., 86, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Washington, died Sunday, July 24, 2022.
He was born September 21, 1935, to the late Wilbert L. Melvin, Sr. and Virginia Crile Melvin.
Wil graduated from Washington High School and lived the majority of his adult life in the Washington area before moving to Florida after his retirement.
Wil was a machinist for more than 30 years, completing his apprenticeship at Crile Machine and working the majority of his career at McGraw-Edison/Cooper Industries.
He was an avid hunter for many years, and he enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife before she fell ill in 2005. He enjoyed visits to the casino. He also enjoyed driving, and worked part time at Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Florida.
He was a member of Friendship Community Church while he lived in Washington, and he faithfully attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Zephyrhills.
On September 4, 1954, he married Audrey Weisenberg, who died in 2008.
Surviving are two sons, Michael L. Melvin (Susan Steratore) of Columbia, S.C., and Donald P. Melvin (Reita) of Claysville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, is his sister, Geraldine “Gerry” Melvin Lehockey.
Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m, the time of the service, Saturday, August 13, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Rick Bruckner, and interment will take place at a later date at Forest Lawn Gardens.
