Joan Kohler Schubert
Joan Kohler Schubert, 84, a 52 year resident of Peters Township, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
Beloved wife of 58 years to Charles “Chuck” Schubert. Daughter of George C. and Rita A. Kuntz Kohler. Dear sister of James P. (Geraldine) Kohler, Susan M. (Michael) Bieltz, Elizabeth J. (Charles) Kirschner, Carol A. (Michael) Lavra and the late George C. Kohler II. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues and her numerous cherished students.
After 56 years of being a dedicated teacher, Joan retired from the Baldwin-Whitehall School District in June of 2015. The last 30 years she taught and worked as a librarian at Paynter Elementary School. Her professional achievement and recognitions include finalist nomination for two years by Thanks to Teachers, Certificate of Achievement by Allegheny County, Certificate of Award by Pennsylvania PTA, Honored by Who’s Who among Teachers, and numerous others.
Joan earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University and achieved 63 credits towards a Doctorate degree. She was a life member sister of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority.
Joan was an avid antique collector, designed interior decorations and had a discerning eye for valuable jewelry, patriotic memorabilia and other collectibles.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed traveling with her husband especially to The Homestead in Hot Sulphur Springs Virginia and Niagara on the Lake, Ontario.

Family and friends welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2022. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022, in St. John XVIII Parish, St. Benedict the Abbot Church. Interment National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
