Thomas John Felak
Thomas John Felak, 90, entered into rest Saturday, August 13, 2022.
Tom was born to Mary Kutsik and Charles Felak of Speers, and graduated from Charleroi Senior High School and California State College of Pennsylvania.
Tom played baseball for several teams in the Mon Valley during high school.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, was stationed at Quantico and Guantanamo Bay, where he played baseball for the Corps. He played professionally for the Brunswick, Ga., Pirates and was signed by Pirate legend Pie Traynor.
Tom was a resident of Eighty Four and Avella before moving to Houston, Texas and then North Augusta, S.C.
While in Washington County, Tom was involved in the County Park system, including Mingo Creek and Cross Creek, acquiring properties for this Project 70 venture. In Avella, he was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church and the Polar Star Club. He was a coach and umpire for Avella youth baseball.
While in South Carolina, he worked for the Savannah River Plant, particularly for the ORA, a recreational organization of the plant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray (Barbara Janosik) Felak.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Frances Cecelia Pavlecic Felak; two sons, Charles (Debi Black) Felak of Ephrata, and John (Mary Clutter) Felak of North Augusta, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, David (Shirley Agnew Robertson) Felak of Aiken, S.C.
The Memorial Mass will be conducted Monday, August 22, in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Inurnment will be held Tuesday, August 23, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, with Veteran Honors.
