John Barron Jr.
John Barron, Jr. of South Strabane, Washington County, died Sunday, August 21, 2022, in Presbyterian Senior Care surrounded by his loved ones, after a brief illness.
He was born on September 20, 1931, in Canonsburg to John Barron Sr. and Bertha Gula Barron. He graduated from Canonsburg High School and proudly served in the United States Army.
After his service, John received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in education from Duquesne University.
He taught sixth grade in the Canon McMillan School District for several years until following his passion into the automobile sales industry. He had also developed several mobile home parks. He was still on the job until July 2, 2022 working with his partner of more than 50 years, Don Matthews.
John was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
On September 11, 1955, he married Novella Strong Barron, who survives.
He is also survived by his children: John Michael (Donna), Luann, and Joseph (Olga); his grandchildren: Kate, Michele (John Ferris), John Anthony (Samantha), Adam, Sara, Max, Corrie (Tanner Jackson) Lindsey (Bill Douglass), Shane and Alex; great-grandchildren: Paul, Travis, Carolina, Derek, Charlotte and John Calvin; his dear sisters, Mary Jane Barron and Anna Mae Jennings; and two special nephews, Rex (Lori) Jennings and John (Arianne) Jennings; one brother-in-law, Richard Strong; and many more nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rex Jennings; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Fusselman and Jenny Strong.
John leaves a legacy of good work ethic and charity. Many great deals and some better lessons. He was a brilliant man with both passion and wisdom.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aids at Canonsburg Hospital, specifically, Cassie, Debbie and Natasha as well as his nurses at Presbyterian Senior Care for their care and compassion.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 E. College Street, Canonsburg. The Devine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022, in St. Michael’s Byzantine Church, 166 East College Street, Canonsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John’s name to St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church.
