Sarah Ann Bissell Stenger
Sarah Ann “Sally” Bissell Stenger, 87, of Avella, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 21, 2022, in her home.
She was born on May 16, 1935, in Canonsburg, daughter of the late Cecil and Minerva Rose Smiddle Bissell.
Sally was a 1953 graduate of Canonsburg High School, where she was a majorette.
She worked as a seamstress at Bobby Brooks and then worked as a tour guide at Meadowcroft Village in Avella.
Sally attended St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canonsburg. She enjoyed her flowers, doing crossword puzzles, cooking for her family and her dog Katie and cats, Tootie and Lily.
She was married to Jerry “Buck” Stenger, who died on February 1, 2016.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Joe) Gagliani of Avella, Audie Lycans of Bethany, W.Va., Heidi (Kurt) Meyers of Washington and Jason Stenger and Cara Shaffer of Avella; four grandchildren, Angela Lycans of Canonsburg, Heather (Craig) Curtis of Nashville, Tenn., Brittany (Jason) Mears of West Newton and Joe Gagliani and his fiancee Amanda Hackinson; a great-grandson, Luke Mears; and a sister, Judy (Richard) Brinkley of York Springs.
Deceased in addition to her husband and her parents is a sister, Delores Buyan.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, at Breezy Heights Tavern. Friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Avella Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Cross Creek Senior Citizens Center.
