Emma J. Johnson

Emma J. “Nunny” Johnson, 97, of Houston, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 24, 2022, in the Greenery Center for Rehab and Nursing.

She was born December 26, 1924, in Kittanning, a daughter of Secondo and Elvira Brunettini Ambrogi.

Emma was a graduate of Kittanning High School. She had been employed as a clerk for ALCOA, RCA and Joy Manufacturing, and as librarian for the Chartiers-Houston School District.

At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church in Houston. When her children were young, she was a Sunday School teacher and became known as the cookie lady for giving cookies to her students.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Chartiers Chapter #97 Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed decorating for all occasions and holidays.

Surviving is a daughter, Judy Boggs (Kevin) of Washington; a son, Harold Johnson Jr. (Beda Iskey) of Houston; three grandchildren, Stephanie Washabaugh (John Jr.), Dylan Johnson, Max Johnson (Tiffany Surich) and Brandon Boggs (Jessica Eland); two great granddaughters, Gabriella and Nia Washabaugh; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Achille and Merino Ambrogi; four sisters, Mary Rizzo, Betty Jean Kokinakis and Rose and Julia Ambrogi; and her ex-husband, Harold Johnson Sr.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner / Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Private interment in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
