Thomas G. Peterson
Thomas G. “Tombo” Peterson, 84, of Burgettstown formerly of Avella, passed away on Friday evening, December 2, 2022 in Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care of Washington, after a brief illness.
Tom was born on April 7, 1938, in Cedar Grove, a son of the late Elmer Lawrence and Evelyn Ora Murphy Peterson.
He was a 1956 graduate of Avella High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a member of Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 of Avella.
On April 15, 1974 he created his business Atlas Fabco, which later became Peterson Industries, in Slovan. He was the owner and operator until he closed earlier this year.
In his youth, Tom played soccer, football and baseball. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, collecting classic cars and attending car shows. He was an avid Pittsburgh Panther and Steeler fan. He loved sharing golf and football stories from years past with his cronies.
Surviving are, his loving companion of 47 years, JoAnne Bokulich of Midway; his sister, Shirley McIlvried of Allison Park; nieces and nephews, Howard (Paula) McIlvried; Heather (Lance) Himmelburger; Brenda (Kevin) Keck; Bonnie Wysocki and Robb (Mary) McIlvried; and longtime employee, Cyndi (Tom) Georgetti of Avella; and many great nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Deceased in addition to his parents are a sister, Carolyn Wysocki; two brothers-in-law, Bernard Wysocki and Howard McIlvried; and two nephews, Bernard Wysocki Jr. and Timothy McIlvried.
Friends and family will be received from 3 to 7 p.m., the time of the Blessing Service, on Monday, December 5, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312.
A private burial will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Avella Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
