Edward F. Powers, 77, of Avella, passed away early Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in Washington Hospital.

He was born August 5, 1945, in Washington, a son of the late Michael P. and Laura Butlar Powers.

Ed attended Avella Schools and worked in the blast furnace for J & L Steel for 17 years and then was a truck driver for Al Lorenzi, retiring in 2006.

Ed attended Avella Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Indian Springs Rod and Gun Club and Centennial Lodge #544 of Carnegie, where he was a 3rd Degree Mason. He was a former member of the SNPJ Lodge 292 and Polar Star Mutual Benefit Society.

He was very involved in the Avella community; he volunteered for the Avella Ambulance Association and was a member of the Avella Volunteer Fire Dept. Company 35 for 57 years. In the early 1980s he also received his EMT certification.

Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He loved to bowl and in his later years he enjoyed working on his 1956 Chevy and taking it to car shows.

On March 17, 1967, in Atlasburg, he married Pearl E. Keefer, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 55 years, are two sons, Edward F. (Tina) Powers Jr. of Avella, and Michael (Jessica) Powers of Langeloth; five grandchildren, Taylor and Ethan Powers, Samantha Powers, Shane and Austin St.Cyr; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are five brothers, Michael, Robert, Joseph, Hobart and David Powers; and a sister, Nellie Thomas.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 15, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 16, with Pastor Rich Narus officiating.

Burial will be in West Point Cemetery, Avella.
