Frances L. Lee, 88, of Washington, transitioned from time to eternity on December 16, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born August 13, 1934, in Marianna, a daughter of the late Clarence and Lillian Allen-Smith.

A devout Baptist, she was a long time member of Nazareth Baptist Church on Lincoln St in Washington where she served as Deaconess for many years.

After moving to Washington, she met and married Edward Lee. They spent many years traveling and were deeply involved in their community and politics. Even though being a mother and homemaker fulfilled her life; she attended and graduated from Penn Commercial receiving a degree in business. Frances obtained a job in the Prothonotary’s Office at the Washington County Court House where she was promoted over the years and retired with the title of Deputy Prothonotary.

Frances enjoyed daily readings from her Bible, cooking, family function, caring for her grandchildren, and crocheting. At a young age, she became a lifetime member of the NAACP. Frances’ life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.

Surviving are one son, Lonnie (Olivia) Nowlin of Washington; and one daughter, Clara (Pete) Nutts of Sharpsburg, MD; five grandchildren, Chantel Ellis, Ryan Tyler, Nicholas Nowlin – all of Washington, David Fisher of Pittsburgh, and Zachary Fisher of Rochester, NY; 10 great-grandchildren: Kiely Eakin, Eli Eakin, Login Eakin, Malcolm Johnson, Davis Ellis II, Aubrey Tyler, Jayla Tyler, Kingston Tyler, Aloni Tylere, and Cairo Tyler; two great-great-grandchildren: Zamir Johnson and Kristiana Bennett, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her siblings, Fred Allen, Mary Calloway, Betty Johnson, Nellie Frazier, Thomas Allen, Clifford Allen, Jr., and John Allen. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Professional arrangements are in the care of Journey of Life Funeral Home, Inc., 121 Ridge Ave, Washington, PA – Autumn Lantz, Supervisor.

Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, the hour of service at the Nazareth Baptist Church, 123 N. Lincoln St, Washington, PA, and funeral services will immediately follow. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, PA.
