Erma Levi Young
Erma Levi Young, 82, of Washington, died Monday, December 19, 2022 in the Concordia Hospice of Washington Donnell House.
She was born March 6, 1940 in West Finley, a daughter of the late Ross R. and Marie Cheek Rockwell.
Erma was a 1958 graduate of Trinity High School and went on to attend the Patrine Cosmetology School, Washington.
She was the owner and operator of Levi’s Salon in Washington, PA.
She was active at Friendship Community Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir for holiday performances. She loved to paint, read and dance. In her younger years she was active as a volleyball player.
A published poet, Erma was honored by the National Poets’ Society in recognition of her two poems. She was celebrated as a long-time volunteer at the Salvation Army of Washington, where she spent many, tireless hours assisting those in need. She will be remembered most for her outgoing personality, her sense of humor, the cards and notes she loved to send and receive, and the intense love she had for her family.
Surviving are a son, Geno Ross (Cindy) Levi of Canonsburg; a brother, Charles (Kathy) Rockwell of Washington, and a sister, Shirley Church of Los Gatos, Calif; six grandchildren, Kiana Marie (Regan) Hershey and Nakia Nanette Levi, both of Pompano Beach, Fla., as well as Austin James Young, Abigale Allison Young, Ella Suzanne Young and Kassandra Williams-Young of Washington.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, James G. Young, are her first husband, Gene R. Levi; a son, James J. Young; and a brother, James Rockwell.
