Lucille “Lucy” Mehaffey, 69, of Prosperity, died Wednesday, December 21, 2022 in her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born February 5, 1953, in Asuncion, Paraguay, a daughter of the late Albert and Connie Gatti D’Hoedt.

Lucy was a 1971 graduate of Trinity High School and went on to work for the Washington branch of the U.S. Postal Service for over 38 years, retiring in 2022.

She was a seamstress and had an avid love of cooking and baking and she loved to dance.

On August 14, 2005 she married the love of her life, Thomas G. Mehaffey, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Teri Kwiatkowski of Washington; three sons, Luke Kwiatkowski , Michael (Melissa) Mehaffey of West Mifflin and Thomas J. (Rosann) Mehaffey of Washington; a brother, Ruben (Katrina) D’Hoedt of Calif.; four sisters, Celia (Gottlieb) Fischli of Uniontown, Christina (William) Barr of Colo., Perla Brown of Ore. and Blanca (John) Erickson of N.C.; six grandchildren, Ethan, Elijah, and Evan Conklin, Elliott and Emma Pettit and Layla Mehaffey, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Alberto D’Hoedt and sister, Graciella D’Hoedt.
