Betty Mae Woods Osburn
Betty Mae Woods Osburn, of Midlothian, Va., passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021.
Born on June 11, 1923, in Chicago, to Clara A. and William J. Woods, she had two younger brothers, the late Earl W. Woods (Elaine), and Charles L. Woods (Marge).
She worked briefly as an office manager for a finance company until her marriage to her handsome young sailor, Obert Owen “Jack” Osburn in 1944. They lived in Cincinnati, Ohio; Greenville and Charlotte, N.C.; Toronto; and Atlanta, Ga.; before settling in Venetia.
They had two children, William O. Osburn (Barbara), of Princeton, N.J.; and Nancy O. Berger (Kenneth), of Midlothian, Va..
After Jack’s death in 2007, she remained in the house they had built together until moving to Spring Arbor of Salisbury in Midlothian.
Betty adored her grandchildren, William Osburn (Christen), Bryan Osburn, Brannan Berman, and Blair Osburn; as well as her six great-grandchildren, Owen and Riley Osburn, Noah and Benjamin Berman, and Mason and Delaney Osburn. Although they did not live close by, they were all very special to her.
Betty was especially proud of her years as a Girl Scout leader in Atlanta, and often wondered about the girls in her troop. She was also a very active member of Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray, serving as a deacon, trustee, and Sunday school teacher and secretary. She held various positions with the Center Women’s Association and had fond memories of craft and painting classes and Circle meetings along with other activities. She cherished the many friends at Center and thought of them often after leaving Pennsylvania.
Betty and Jack delivered Meals on Wheels for 18 years in McMurray, and volunteered with the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Ft. Myers, Fla..
Betty enjoyed traveling far and wide with Jack, reading novels, gardening, spending winters in Ft. Myers, and entertaining friends and visitors. Always tactful, kind and loving, Betty lived her values and faith and was the heart and soul of our family. Her warm smile, sense of humor, and boundless love will remain with us forever.
A short service will be held January 11 at Center Presbyterian Church with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her name to Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray.
