Dorothy S. Smida Hands
Dorothy S. Smida Hands, 85, of Monongahela, Carroll Township, peacefully was called home by the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2022, in Penn Highlands Mon-Valley.
She was born on March 11, 1936, in Bentleyville, a daughter of the late John and Anna Ondash Smida.
Dorothy attended Penn Commercial Business School after her graduation in 1953 from Bentleyville High School.
She was an active member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela, always lending a helping hand with their fundraisers and activities.
She retired in 2005 after 30 years from the PA Department of Labor and Industry (Charleroi Unemployment Office).
She enjoyed baking and reading and having Holiday dinners with her family.
She is survived by her husband, James Hands, who she married August 31, 1957; two sons, Bruce H. and Bradley Hands, of Monongahela; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Terrence Belcher, of Eighty Four; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Dorothy Smida, of Finleyville; a grandson, Taylor McBride, of Finleyville; and many great friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Smida; and two sisters, Anna Satina and Helen Oreski.
Friends will be received at the Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Blessing prayers will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday, January 14, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
At the family’s request masks must be worn at the funeral home.
