It is with great sadness the family of John J. Kasula Jr., 74, of Washington, shares his passing, Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

He was born April 28, 1947, in Richeyville, a son of the late John and Rose Kasula.

On October 21, 1972, at Sts. Mary and Ann, Roman Catholic Church, in Marianna, he married the love of his life, Georgia Thomas. He was a devoted husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, friend, and pap.

John graduated from Bethlehem Center High School in 1965. Growing up he enjoyed playing sports like track and field, baseball, and football. He then went on to graduate from California University of Pennsylvania.

Immediately following graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969-70 where he was awarded the Bronze Star. After serving his country, John worked in the financial field for several years before he retired from UMWA Career Centers, Inc.

He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan who passed the love of the black and gold onto his kids and grandkids. He loved Notre Dame football, the Los Angeles Lakers, Florida State Seminoles, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and loved the Pittsburgh Pirates until changes in ownership.

He also enjoyed building puzzles, reading, collecting baseball cards with his daughter and grandson, watching his kids and grandkids play sports, announcing TWIST girls softball games, playing fantasy football, and listening to his “Kasula Klassics” Doo-Wop playlist. He captivated the room telling the best stories about him and his friends throughout life that would make everyone cry laughing. Above all he adored his two grandchildren and spent every moment he could spoiling them. He will be missed more than words could ever convey.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Georgia; his daughters, Michelle (Jeff) Engle, of Washington, Melissa (Erin) Kasula), of Aliquippa; brothers, Brian (Teri) Kasula, of Watauga, Texas, Michael (Katherine) Kasula, of Sandy Plains; his very best friends and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jason Engle; several nieces and a nephew, Gina (Robert Jr.) Jenkins, Michael (Lauren) Kasula, Kerry Kasula, Amanda Kasula, and Dana (Alex) Caton; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins in the United Kingdom.

John was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kevin F. Kasula; and nephew, John James Kasula.

Arrangements are entrusted to Nichol Funeral Home in Washington, where a guestbook may be signed at nicholfuneralhome.com

A private service will be held at St. James Parish, formerly Immaculate Conception Church, followed by a private burial at Washington Cemetery.
