G. Marie Kelley
G. Marie Kelley, 84, of Washington, died Saturday, January 22, 2022, in Townview Health and Rehab. She was born October 30, 1937, in Washington.
She was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School and then immediately went on to Washington Hospital School of Nursing.
On May 13, 1961, she married the late Richard A. Kelley. She loved being the wife of a lifelong Marine, nursing at each base of his deployment including Hawaii, North Carolina, New York, Maine and Pennsylvania.
She graduated from Duke University with an Intensive Care Certification, where she also served as nursing director.
In 1978, she and Richard permanently moved back to Pennsylvania, where she continued her love of nursing at the Washington Hospital from where she retired as quality assurance of medical records department supervisor.
In 1986, she graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with her bachelor’s degree.
Marie was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Evangelical Church in Glyde. She was also on the Washington Hospital Oncology Board.
Marie enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Christy) Kelley of Eighty Four, Dennis (Patty) Kelley of Scenery Hill; a sister, Jane Swan of Florida; grandchildren, Tonya Fleisher of Virginia, Brittany Hall of Pennsylvania, Lauren Larese of Missouri, Chelsie Cornell of Georgia, Dylan Kelley of Pennsylvania; a great-grandson, Ness Larese of Missouri; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, Richard A. Kelley, are her mother, Genieve King; sister, Mary Lou Podish.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 30, in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday January 31. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
